My curiosity about a couple of forthcoming places in Andersonville has prompted me to stop lurking and register.

First, I noticed yesterday that there are signs in the windows of a storefront on Clark just north of Bryn Mawr (immediately north of the McDonald's) that mention olive oils, vinegars, and sandwiches. We drove by too quickly for me to get the name, if there was one, but if anyone knows anything about this place, I'd love to hear it. I love what I think of as "yuppie" sandwiches, but they're in amazingly short supply in Andersonville. This seems very promising.

Second, while I was looking for information on potential sandwiches, I ran across a listing for new restaurant, called Big Jones, on the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce website. According to the Chamber of Commerce, the restaurant will be "Southern" and will open in spring 2008. I think the address given is the old Augie's space. Does anyone know anything about this?

    Thanks for your insight!

the deli you mentioned is supposed to be an Italian "gourmet" deli. I can't recall the name but those posters have been in the windows for a few months. Let's hope it fares better than Urban Epicure did . . . and let's also hope they carry items you'd really want to purchase every day, like salami and cheese and marinated salads and whatnot. If I need expensive olive oil and fancypants pasta I can go to City Olive down the way.

I do not know anything about Big Jones . . . you could always call the Andersonville Chamber directly and ask them.

While we're talking Andersonville, Natalie of Pasticceria Natalina just started serving little savory pastries, basically a Sicilian version of a croissant. There are 4 or 5 different fillings, we had a spinach and gorgonzola today and it was lovely. She heated it in the oven (not the microwave which completely destroys pastry). I also think it is super great that Nick insists if you order an espresso you drink it there, standing, as you would in Italy. At first my husband got all cranky about it ("I want to take it with me!" Nick: "No, you don't, and I don't have little paper cups anyhow.") but now it makes us stop and linger and you know, get all convivial with our neighbors. And nibble on their pastries. A little Slow Food action right in the middle of bustling Andersonville. Right on.
