Not sure how long it's been open, but fairly recent I believe. Tried it for the first time last night, and it's a perfectly nice Asian fusion type place. The menu is extensive, reminds me of chinese takeout where they essentially list every combination of a set of ingredients. Must have been about 40 entree choices and 20 appetizers, plus satay, salads, desserts and wine/beer/cocktails. Decor is nice, service was attentive and food was very good. There was a jazz band that was coming in about when we left. Appetizers were probably $8 to $12 or more, entrees were mostly $25 and up. My wife had soup with loads of rice noodles which made the consistency unappealing to her and it needed salt and pepper. My app was 3 pieces of asparagus, wrapped in rice paper with cheese and a sweet sour dipping sauce - very good but $9. I had a beef tenderloin with vegetables and my wife had shrimp (with tails on which she hates) with vegetables for $25 and $28 respectively - menu didn't say so but both were simply stir fry dishes albeit with good ingredients and well done. With one drink each and no desserts it was $85 before tip. I wish them the best and I am no market expert, but too pricey for Merrillville IMHO - we'll see. Pretty close to Chicago prices with nowhere near the overhead. They have a website but there's nothing there as of today http://www.asparagusrestaurant.com. Hi,

Your post was moved to Chicagoland because NW Indiana is very close.

I read your post from the bottom up, so I learned the prices at this Chinese restaurant were similar to Chicago without the overhead. I then saw the prices and my jaw dropped, because they seemed higher than what you typically expect in Chicago's Chinatown. I almost sense you are comparing your local restaurant to PF Chang level of pricing.

Regardless of my surprise on the prices, please do report back on the food scene in NW Indiana.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
