I gave it a search and only found one mention of this little shop that sits on the less visited part of Taylor St. (2300 block W, off Western) Joe's is one of those little cafes that has been there forever and has endless regulars and features a diverse menu that really represents Chicago today. Joes has all the Italian sandwich's one would expect including beef, sausage, meatball, Tuna, Italian cold cuts, chicken parm, eggplant parm, pepper and egg and also breakfast sandwichs, steak and cheese, chorizo and egg and im probaly forgetting a few, not to mention the daily specials.
I imagine at some point when the neighborhood switched demographics they added a Mexican portion to their menu. You may not be expecting it but man this little cafe puts out some really tasty flauta's, sope's, taco's and the rice and beans are stellar too. They make everything fresh on site including the salsa which is tasty. The whole menu is home cooked meals like your grandma would of made, whether she's Italian or Mexican. Joes is one of these little spots that are becoming extinct in Chicago. I would really reccomend the chicken noodle soup with fried fideo on a day like today. They also do omelettes and carry Filberts bottled pop, this place is real Chicago and im happy its not going anywhere. Check it out.
Quick note: They close around 2:30 I think so its a great breakfast/lunch spot but if you get there around closing I promise they wont go apeshit like Patty and family only kidding but really they are the nicest people, anyone in the neighborhood will tell you.
