We are in search for a recommendation for a good caterer. The people we used last year quoted us $1,000 more than last year. Ouch. We are a non profit organization so we are watching costs.

    Any suggestions would be great.

Check the Professional Forum (where this will probably be moved), or, and this just a personal opinion, try FigMolly or FigJustin (use the private message system looking for those handles). This is slightly bigger than what they usually do so I may not be doing them a favor here, but praise is universal for their cuisine.

Cleetus Friedman, formerly director of Heaven on Seven's catering department has opened up a new catering venture. He can be found on the web at http://www.cityprovisions.com/. Cleetus is a friend and client of mine and this request seems right up his alley. Good Luck

As a non-profit event planner/fundraiser, my go to place is Hel's Kichen in Northbrook. The food is good, the staff is nice and their prices are very reasonable.

I know Beans and Bagels (1812 W. Montrose, 773-769-2000) does a lot of catering, I'm not sure if they have hot breakfast options or not. If you call over there, Will is the one to speak to.

I think NYC Bagel can do it, I think goddess and grocer can but i'm guessing they'd be too much.

I decided to throw myself a "few days early 40th birthday" party on December 26 when family would still be in town. This was a small affair with friends hosting at their condo. I didn't want them to have to do much work on the day after Christmas, so I searched for a caterer. My first thought was Fig, but Molly informed me that they would be out-of-town this week. She recommended City Provisions. Working with Cleetus and Lorna was a joy. They were very responsive and met all my requests for an interesting menu with nods towards the pescovegetarian (me,) and the gluten-free for my Celiac in-laws, (even coming up with a gluten-free crabcake, which was outstanding.) Everything was delivered on biodegradable disposables making for easy clean-up. The only "work" involved was warming the chorizo-stuffed potatoes and pan-frying the crabcakes. The biggest "hit" was the BLT skewers. Those flew off the platter! I would not hesitate to recommend City Provisions and would use them again should the need arise. Here's a few pics:

I'm thinking about using City Provisions for an upcoming party for about 10-15 people. How much did it end up costing you, if you don't mind me asking?

    thanks,

    Hi,

All-inclusive, I believe it was approximately $450. For catering, I thought it was a good value. They were very professional and easy to work with/contact and responsive to our special dietary needs. The food itself was clearly prepared with care. Everything was flavorful and visually appealing. We had more than enough food for our group.

I do not hesitate to recommend their service. Good Luck with your event! -Lynn
