G Wiv wrote:Not sure Renga-Tei, which I very much like, is a good comparison. R-T is a full service Japanese restaurant, Dempster Fish House is (mainly) take out. I'd more compare DFM to Sea Ranch on Lake in Wilmette. Both are take out, but to my mind Dempster Fish Market wins on price, service and freshness of ingredients.
stevez wrote: would completely agree on the comparison to Sea Ranch being more appropriate and I'd also agree that Dempster Fish would be a far better choice between those two.

Steve,
They were red clams, mirugai is geoduck.
Agreed, the red clam was very fresh and quite tasty.
Enjoy,

Those in the picture very much look like hokigai (surf clam) - one of my favorites. Usually much more tender than mirugai in my opinion.

I have never seen anything like this ... it the most simple, economical use of web " space" ever, like some clever zen analog of the small, focused storefront it represents.
I dunno, there is something perfect about this - wonder if the webmaster is the chef ?

Octarine wrote:Thanks for the reminder, Gary. As I posted in another thread, I think I have just lost my taste for some sushi for a while. DFH was not the only one that tasted off to me. I'm gonna take a break fro mit and try again in a couple months.
Camusman wrote:I'm not saying it happens all the time at DFM, but I have switched my business to Renga-Tei.
Camusman,
As Steve Z and I discuss upthread I don't think it's an apt comparison between DFH and Renga Tei or, for that matter, another of my neighborhood favorites Tampopo.
Not discounting your or Octarine's experience, but I've been to DFH twice, both times with good, especially in the price/value ratio, results.
Enjoy,
Gary
