Sushi late night or after a Cubs game

All -

Taking some out of town friends to a Cubs game tonight and wanted to come up with some sort of Sushi option for after the game. Any ideas? Don't know if we will stay till the end so we might be able to go around 9Pm.

Any thoughts where we don't need to travel to Bucktown or downtown for some good sushi?

I think Matsuya, just a couple of blocks down Clark Street, is open late for sushi.

Sushi Mura, just north of Addison on Southport, is one of my favorites.

What about Tsuki? I know it is not as close, but also looking for quality (heard tsuki is pretty good)..

IMO, tiny little Toro Sushi in Lincoln Park is the best spot for Sushi in the neighborhood of Wrigley. They're open weeknights until 10 per their website.

Matsuya because it's closer and open later which will give you more time to eat/talk, imo. I think their food is good. I have not been to Toro or Tsuki, however, so for all I know they may be a lot better.[/quote]

Wakamono on Broadway between Aldine and Roscoe is open late. This is my go-to sushi spot for dinner both early and late.

Matsuya is Cubs sushi. Plus, the techno-roll places don't have natto, Osaka-style box-pressed sushi (battera), dan dan mein (ramen version) and other Japanese mainstays that make Matsuya unique in the neighborhood.

Update -

We ended up going to Tsuki around 9:45 after the Cubbies were blowing the Reds out.

I went with two avid Sushi eaters in from out of town and we were anxious to dig in to see what gems we could find.

We started with a number of sashimi pieces and a couple of rolls:

Sashimi:
Chu-toro
Salmon
Hamachi
Hamachi Toro
Super White Tuna

Rolls:
Crazy Tuna
Some Scallop roll
And a couple others I cannot remember.

Overall it was completely underwhelming. Sashimi pieces appeared to be smaller than usual and not as fresh as I would have liked. On one I picked up a fishy smell (on a piece that should not have had the smell).

We had maybe 5 total rolls (only could remember the two) and only one of them was one that I would get again.

Overall for the $180 we dropped (with drinks) I would not do it again.

Late to the party, but my suggestion would have been Matsuya as well. It's a long time favorite for cooked food, love the salt grilled fish, as well as sushi.

Baseball season just started, keep Matsuya's 11:30pm close in mind for next time.

I should have chimed in earlier, but we've been really down on Tsuki lately. It used to be one of our favorite places (heck, we even got engaged there), but lately the quality of there fish has done a severe nose dive. My suspicion is that a lot of energy went into opening Ai, and Tsuki suffered for it. We go to Ai now instead (which isn't really close to either Wrigley or the Cell).

I absolutely agree. I just wish the waits weren't so ridiculous.

(That website, made by one of their customers, is pretty bad by the way.)

I agree with you on both points. Hopefully, Mitch's success will allow him to expand soon so that the 90 minute waits for a table become a thing of the past.

As for the website, I acknowledge that it is pretty horrible. But, it is a good illustration as to how fanatical this restaurant's customer base is toward promoting it.
