I'm sorry if there is a thread about this Highland Park restaurant, but I couldn't find it-probably because I am search impaired.

My husband and I were there more than 4 years ago, and I don't remember much of what was on the menu. I think I remember duck tacos. Of course, I can't find their website either :?

It's a good friend's 50th birthday and she would like a Mexican dinner with 5 of her closest girlfriends. She has heard that Hot Tamales is good-and I guess I'm looking for recommendations of what we should order.

    Thanks in advance.

Hot Tamales has recently reopened out of a bankruptcy. I have not been to the new version, however the old, while popular, was never my cup of tea.

Duck Tacos, Pumpkin Tacos, Enchiladas with BBQ Sauce...everything we have tried in the past was just kind of meh. You would do much better driving a few miles north and visiting Casa De Isaac or Tacos Del Norte in Highwood. I am not enamored with CDI like some folks are on this board, but it has been awarded a GNR. http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=144926

Cathy2 also sampled the taquerias in the area and made an informative post found here: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.ph ... 8c9fbdca88

    Enjoy

    HI,

The new owner of Hot Tamales was the former manager of the bankrupt Hot Tamales. I hardly went before the change. I have only gone once or twice since change and cannot responsibly offer any recommendations.

    Regards,

We went to Casa de Isaac last Spring and liked it, although on the night we were there, the air conditioning was dripping on our table (and in our margaritas) from the ceiling. Because that grossed a few of the girls out (and frankly me too), I can't get them to go back even though everyone at the restaurant was happy to move our table and replace the drinks.

I didn't realize that Hot Tamales was bankrupt. Like I said, we haven't been there in a long time. Unfortunately, the website you linked doesn't work.

I am hoping that someone has been their recently and can help us out. If not, maybe we'll look elsewhere.

    Hi,

If you want to try a new restaurant and report back to the team, then consider visiitng That Little Mexican Café (847-266-1411). It is at the same location as La Casa del Gordo (2014 First St., Highland Park - Next to McDonald's).

La Casa del Gordo was part of the Once Upon a Bagel restaurants. The creative person who designed La Casa del Gordo was Isaac who later opened La Casa del Isaac. Going not too far out onto a limb, I am fairly certain That Little Mexican Cafe is retooled and renamed to differentiate it from La Casa del Isaac. It is likely a pretty good Mexican akin to La Casa del Isaac with a nice interior space to make it more upscale than a Mexican taqueria.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I think it is an expansion of the mini-chain of the same name, which started in Evanston and expanded to Chicago's Uptown neighborhood and now to Highland Park.

    Hi,

I was at Sushi Kushi Too for lunch today. I checked the awning to find the 'Hot' has been removed. It is now 'Tamales' with the tagline, 'That Mexican Joint.'

    Cathy,
Thanks so much for the info-I think the birthday girl is set on going to "Tamales" next Wednesday.

I would rather go into the city and eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant-Salpicon, but I was outvoted.

Hey, it's not my birthday, so what can I say.
