Tomorrow I have a family funeral (step-grandma, 98yo) in Hillside. My mom was trying to find a place for lunch or brunch afterwards. The only GNR in the area seems to be the soul food place and I don't think that'd cut it.

    Anyone have any suggestions ?

Looking for anything special in any way, shape or form? Price Point?

OOH! This place is RIGHT there in Hillside too:

I'm assuming the requirements would be reasonably priced and reasonably bland as there will be people whom I've never met at the service and I have no idea what their palate might be like. The Hungarian place looks interesting, tho.

Oak Park would work as well.

How about Sawa"s Old Warsaw at 17th. and 22nd.? All you can eat Polish at a decent price, with some very good food.

If OP works, then I'm going to assume Forest Park works as well?
Not Sure if these are all open for lunch. Gaetano's is.
    Jimmy's place
Francesca's Fiore (part of the Francesca chain)
    Gaetanos.
If there are gonna be older ppl of any type of decent who might enjoy what the Epicurean might be about. I think it might be up yer alley?

There's also an Ihop on Mannheim and Roosevelt, I think. (if you have to resort to that.

West on Roosevelt (not very far at all) in Lombard is an Outback
Then in the mally sections of lombard/oak brook on 22nd, you've got Claim Jumper, maggianos, Bucca Di Beppo, and a few more TGI McFuntimes joints.
If it was up to me, I'd try to push for The Epicurean, then think about Francesca's for non threatening, but stable Italian, then Maggianos next if Jimmy's isn't open.

I would go with Sawa"s Old Warsaw or Epicurean Hungarian Restaurant.

    They would be perfect.

There is also the Alpine restaurant right at the intersection of Wolf and 22nd. We had a banquet there after my Grandfather's funeral. The food was quite good, and if I remember correctly they only deal in funeral banquets.

I don't know if your group is too large but I have had groups at the Westchester Inn a couple times and everyone was very happy with the experience, though I must point out everyone was looking forward to Czech food.
