It must have been thinking about the Shahi Nehari dinner I can't go to tonight that got me in the mood for Indian food. In my northwest corner of the loop, that means the New Larosh, a place I'd been once and sworn off forever, but I knew others held more favorable impressions.

Well, I can't tell if it's closed because the Health Department wasn't allowed in (red sticker on the door) or if the Health Department wasn't let in because it was closed, but it's closed. A drift of newspapers and junk mail against the door.

    Not really a loss.

I never really liked the food at New Larosh much either. Their naan recently began to taste increasingly like pizza crust. However, it was the only Indian in the Loop, it was cheap, and it was always fun to bring newcomers who didn't think places like that still existed downtown.

I was sad to find Larosh closed when I stopped by there last week. When I worked in the neighborhood a couple years ago I used to frequent that place all the time. Don't know much about recent decline, and I suppose it doesn't matter much now, but I really liked the food, especially for the price. It was one of my lunch time regulars.
