Ice Cream near Schaumburg?

Excluding Culvers, DQ, and Baskin Robbins, anyone know of a place for ice cream in and around the Schaumburg area? Even if it's a restaurant that has killer shakes and/or sundaes. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

A simulacrum of The Buffalo is alive and well in Buffalo Grove. It's more like a Greek coffee shop than the old ice cream parlor at Irving and Pulaski, but they still serve ice cream.

There's a shop in the "new" downtown area of Roselle called " How Sweet it is: Ice Cream and Candies". It's about a 5 minute drive from the far south edge of Schaumburg.

I've never stepped foot inside, so I can't vouch for what they are serving. If you check it out, please report back!

The Buffalo serves Kemp's ice cream.

Probably the most interesting ice cream parlor in the Greater Woodfield area is Capannari in Mount Prospect. Housed in the relocated 1880 Moehling General Store building, they make their own ice cream in unusual special flavors like licorice, lavender and chocolate-covered raspberry.

HungryZ, LAZ's response brings up an excellent point. Are you looking for places that specifically make their own product, or are you searching for an an non-corporate option that might source the product from elsewhere, but then build it into a mean milkshake or sundae?

I've tried all the chains inculding Oberwies, and I'm not knocking them. But I'm looking for a non corporate option that might do something a little different and/or just a little better than the usual suspects.

Visited last weekend, and let's just say "new" downtown Roselle is pretty empty right now. As for How Sweet it Is, they serve Blue Bunny ice cream, homemade confections, and some other varies packaged candy. I do enjoy Blue Bunny, but I was hoping for homemade ice cream. The chocolate covered toffee was very good. The toffee was very buttery and the chocolate had almond shavings on top.

I don't think you're going to do better than Capannari and it's not that far. Closes down in the wintertime though.

A recent visit to Capannari was very disappointing. No unusual flavors and the ice cream had a gummy quality. I was surprised to see peach so early in the summer but the flavor was more like peach gummy candy than fruit. My friend who had ordered it gave me a taste without telling me the flavor and at first I couldn't even identify it.

They were much better last year. I'm wondering if they're taking shortcuts because of the economy.

if you go farther east on Main there are a few good places..Little Gourmet (gourmet shop and sandwiches)..Vine Tastings( wine and wine tastings) ..also the Roselle Deli will be opening soon in that area

We were there last night. I still think they are doing fine. Uneven intensity of flavor is something I've noticed all along, especially with the temporary flavors. (I usually get a "flight" of four small scoops in order to try more without being that tedious person who asks for a million tastes before buying.) I've certainly had some that were more or less unidentifiable, but not this summer. Texture hasn't been an issue at all so far.
