So we planned a dinner with my in laws at Basta Pasta last Saturday at 5pm.

Little did I know - they have new owners, they are now advertising like maniacs, gone are the friendly handwritten menus, gone are the low prices.

Gladly, the food is still outstanding. I was "greeted" by the hostess who chastised us for not having a reservation for 6 people for 5pm because the had 3 large groups coming at 6. After much hemming and hawing, they decided to seat us. At this point I was a little nervous, but thankfully the food didn't disappoint.

I had the Brasciole - it was a step up from the round steak they used to serve. Thin slices of filet, filled with mozzarella and basil, cooked rare. Served with handmade cavatelli w/ perfect tomato cream. Outstanding.

My FIL's rigatoni was also homemade.

My only complaint - the Tiramisu was made with Anise flavored ladyfingers. Not a favorite of mine.

Overall a good meal and still under $200, though only 2 glasses of wine with that.

I think they changed the name as well--now it's just "Basta." I'm glad to hear the food is good--although if they've raised the prices, they may be competing with Zia's, down the block, which will be tough.

On the minus side, I noticed that they also changed the recipe for their delivery pizza when they changed hands. The sauce is now quite spicy--too spicy for my tastes, and there's too much of it. I've been ordering my pizza from Morettis lately--although if anyone has any other Edison Park/Norwood Park recommendations, I'm all ears.

I like Nick and Pete's on North Ave, Trattoria Peppino's also on North Ave, and Armand's just off the Circle on Grand.

    Hey john m

The best pizza in Edison Park is just down the street from Moretti's at the Edison Park inn. They do a killer cracker thin crust in a wood fired oven.

My mother lives in EP and when visiting we would always walk across the tracks to Moretti's for a pie. Since discovering EPI's pizza Moretti's is no longer a contender.
