A last-minute query -- today is my wife's birthday. Just about her favorite dish in the world is Mexican-style fish soup -- Sopa Marina and the like. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a genuinely good Mexican seafood place. Years ago, when we lived in the WP (Wicker Park) we went to El Barco all the time, but we haven't been there in a LONNG time, and it seems to get very uneven notices these days. We tend to default to Lalo's, which is OK, but I've been disappointed in our recent trips there. Any help you can offer this procrastinating husband is most gratefully appreciated.

So, I did an LTH search and came across the alluring Fonda del Mar. Has anyone had the Siete Mares (sic?) there? If you are a ginormous Mexican fish soup fan, does it fit the bill? Thanks.

I find the best ones at Taquerias in general. Two that come to mind El Palmar up on Irving and Cancun next to Arturos on Western have both served me up some pretty good seafood soups.

Not sure about how El Barco es para sopas on Ashland perhaps?
