Joyce Carol Oates wrote:There is no reality only dreams
Your neck may get snapped when you wake
(I hate to start such a light post with such a dark quote but it insisted. The rest of that short poem, which long ago tucked itself into a permanent fold of my brain, can be read here). In the tiny village in which I dwell, in this island in the city, betwixt Chicago and O’Hare, just off the intersection of Foster and Harlem, and on a side-street no less, Bobby Gehrke, 72 yo, awaits at his hot dog cart.

Seems Bobby G, a retired AA mechanic, long dreamt of having his own cart. And on July 16, it happened, with a grand opening complete with an Elvis impersonator. And every day but Monday, from noon to two, and five to midnight, he is there, ready to make you a dog. And he does it well. Just the right touch with the dash of celery salt.

Summer is fleeting, dreams are flotsam, grab what you can.

I note that my town's newest business license holder resides at the same address and physically in front of our oldest business license holder, the Landmark Pub, since 1935. You can wash down your dog with a bit of history.-ramon
