    Hi all,

I was told by someone they heard this restaurant would be closing soon. Anyone know if this is true? It would be a shame to lose this place...it's far from gourmet, but it's good comfort food for a very reasonable price. And the best soup anywhere.

Yes Journey’s End is closing on September 14th. The Annex, (separate bar) is going to close after the Super Bowl. That is the current info I have at this time. I agree it is a good comfort food restaurant, with a pretty friendly staff. The prices are very reasonable too.

Oh, I over heard the owner (one of them) say that he was just offered too much to sell. They are going to put in a CVS drug store, something the area badly needs…..(I am being cute).

Thanks for the info, Dodger. I'm very sorry to hear this. The only thing that would be worse is if you told me they were putting a Starbucks on the site.

Its too bad. The place was a nice twist on the typical greek owned family restaurant in that they specialized in soups. They used to publish a calender listing what soups they were going to offer each month so you could plan your visit around your favorites.

I've always been "neh" about Journey's End, but I know a few people who will be very sad to see it go, so I've copied this thread and emailed it to them.

I just read that after 33 years, Journey's End in Mundelein is closing this Sunday. I haven't been since I was a kid, but I had fond memories of the soup that they would bring to the table, especially their corn chowder.

I read this recently as well, and found myself becoming a bit nostalgic as well. Spent many nights after high school football/basketball games at Journey's End and as we got a bit older, at the Annex Bar which is attached. Cannot remember anything that I ever ordered there, expect for maybe the pizza, but we always went for the free soup that accompanied all orders.

Thought about heading up there for one last bowl with some old high school friends, but in the end, that thought lasted all of about 5 minutes before I decided it was not worth driving way out to Mundelein for a bowl of soup.

As someone who is a little older than most, I say go for it. You are not going there for the soup. You are going there for the memory of it. That memory of you and your HS friends having a last bowl of soup will last a long time.

You won’t get a second chance.
