    Hi all,

I've been looking around and enjoying this site for the past year now. I have received great insight into so many restaurants around the Chicagoland area from this forum. Tonight I have decided to join and make my first post.

We are fast approaching October which to me means lots of pumpkin recipes. My favorite being pumpkin ravioli. My question to all of you is in your opinion who serves the best pumpkin ravioli. My favorite is when served with a butter sage sauce.

I lived downtown until just recently when I moved to Wilmette. I'm still searching for some good restaurants in this area, but that is another topic.

For now, I would like to know all the places where I can get a great pumpkin ravioli dish either close to the city or in the north suburbs.

    My vote is in...
Amore Mio in Hoffman Estates makes the best pumpkin ravioli! Their ravioli is homemade and comes in a delicious balsamic vinegar cream sauce.

    I found some pixs online.

    Amore Mio

7 out of your 13 posts mention your love of Amore Mio......
you must really like the place.

FWIW, it is the closest restaurant to my home and of the two times I've had dinner there it was only OK. I'd say that my biggest complaint was being asked to move SECONDS after finishing our dinners so they could seat a large party at 9:30 pm
They could not have cleared our plates any faster

I would trust any pumpkin ravioli made by any member of the Barbanente family. I first had the dish at Via Veneto many years ago when they were still on Peterson and then many times at La Donna. The balsamic cream sauce that they serve at the various family outposts is a favorite of mine. I think a lunch trip to Via Veneto is in the cards this week with this prompting.

You've hit on one of my favorite dishes. I just tried the pumpkin ravioli at A Mano and loved it.

I'm also a big fan of the Trattoria 10 squash ravioli, so I second that vote as well.

Trattoria Sapori used to have an excellent version, but I don't see it listed on the menu on their website. It might be worth calling to see if they will have it available in October.

The two places that come to mind are Mia Francesca in Lakeview and Pasta Palazzo in Lincoln Park. I've also made it at home a few times when I was in the mood to cook. I will just find some recipes off the internet and try what looks good. Some turn out well, others didn't taste so great.

I don't know if you'd be interested in trying varenicky, but if Russian Tea Time still offers it, I loved their pumpkin varenicky -- Russian dumplings, or the equivalent to Russian ravioli haha.

current GNR nominee Chaihanna has a superb pumpkin manti (basically the same as ravioli). So good, in fact, that posting about it has caused me to feel a need to get there this weekend.

Buona Terra on California in Logan Square makes great Agnolotti Zucca in a sage butter sauce. And it comes with their bread and fabulous dipping sauce.

I just sampled the ravioli al balsamico or pumpkin ravioli served a creamy balsamic sauce at Pasta D'Arte in Norwood Park over the weekend. I was impressed and would highly recommend trying out their version if you are on the NW side of the city.

I had some life changing bleu cheese/pumpkin ravioli about a year ago (or more) at uncommon ground on grace/clark. I still think of it.

I'm on Pasta d' Arte's e-mail list. They've been offering 5 different pasta dishes at $10/ea on Tuesdays and Wednesdays lately. This week their pumpkin Ravioli Al Balsamico (mentioned above,) is on the list.

Try Anteprima...they change menu often but had it tonite and it was fabulous...in a brown butter sauce....great contrast in flavors....also try the fennel salad with orange segments and pomegranate seeds and slivers of pecorino. For you prosciutto fans, they have a lamb version served some great goat cheese and capers....mmmm.....and IMHO....some of the best service for restaurants in their class!

While not precisely pumpkin, we did rather enjoy butternut squash ravioli at Vinci on Halsted this week. Puffy pasta pillows of goodness, topped with a unique herb complement, on the verge of swimming in too much oil, delicious as it was. Wouldn't have chosen this restaurant independent of our being in that neighborhood, but quite impressed. From variety of bread service, to crispy polenta (their 69,623 served according to the placecard that arrived with the dish - the lucky eater of # 70,000 wins a free trip to Italy?!), to arugula greens and not-ripened-enough pear offset by exceptionally nutty lemon vinagrette, to lentil soup, completed with the aforementioned entree. Conscientious service and Pavarotti crooning at an appropriate volume overhead. A solid if not standout experience.

Antico Posto has a lovely rendition of butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sage sauce and walnuts as a special.

You can also get 3 smaller portions of their gnocchi and ravioli dishes as one entree (ask for it; it's not on the menu). Yesterday I had the squash, 3-cheese, and short rib ravioli. All were exceptional. The tomato and 3-cheese was especially fresh and bright tasting, and the short rib was like a deconstructed pot roast with celery and carrots in a rich broth.

    Ahhh, comfort food...
