So it was Mom's B-Day and the whole crew was in town to celebrate, we went to Mimosa (her choice) in Highland Park.
Starters: ($5-9)
Bruschetta - very good, deep flavored roasted tomatoes w/ fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil.
Peekytoe Crabcakes - another very good starter, it was a special. Breading was very light and the crab flavor was pronounced.
Grilled Calamari - another special, very good, grilled just so it was done, very tender.
Entrees: ($16-26)
Broiled Atlantic Salmon - served over two styles of potato w/creamy sauce of wilted spinach/horseradish.
I really prefer Pacific Salmon but this fish was full flavored and cooked to perfection (not overdone as I find many salmon dishes)
Veal Chop - it was a special. Good although overcooked in my opinion.
Twice Roasted Duck - We always enjoy duck but we do better at home.
Angus Skirt Steak - marinated, grilled and served with homemade tamarind steak sauce, pommes frites and a saute of green beans. Steak was very good and everybody wanted pieces of my meal (we all share bites of our meals). Pomme frites were thin shoe lace type, ugh! Give me the thick planks please. Sauce was ok, thankfully served on the side.
Pacific Rim Sea Scallops - Sauteed diver caught sea scallops atop Udon noodles. The best dish of the evening, excellent! Scallops were cooked to perfection (again, not overdone). Nice pronounced Asian flavors.
