I noticed from inside a taxi the other day that Bennigan's at 150 S. Michigan Avenue has reopened. So after Riccardo Muti's Verdi Requiem last night, The Lovely Donna and I dropped in with a friend and split a Monte Cristo, which she hated. I thought it was actually better than the last time I had one there. Had the cheese been melted, I'd have enjoyed it even more.

They must have been forced to give the printed Monte Cristo recipe to the Bankruptcy Trustee.

As that guy on Check Please once said, in reference to dinner at Karyn's, "3000 years ago, God gave us fire for a reason. We should use it."

OK I'll admit it... I thought Bennagans had one of the best Monty Cristo sandwiches around. But now that they are gone, I have not found anyplace that even comes close to the them.

    Any suggestions?

    jimmya,

The Bennigans on S. Michigan Ave. is open and still as busy as ever. A textbook rendition of the batter fried style monte christo, powdered sugar and raspberry jam included. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I happen to like it a lot.

Seems to have a bit less ham, turkey, and cheese than back in the day, though.
