My aunt's. She's not a foodie by any means, pretty much eats just salads, omelets and salmon, but I don't want to take her to just a coffee shop (which is probably what she'd prefer). But it's a special one.....

    Any suggestions?

Prairie Grass Cafe, open, airy, food, service and atmosphere refined with a casual touch, perfect for a favorite aunts milestone birthday lunch.

    Enjoy,

This is a complete slam-dunk. Take her to GNR Winner Prarie Grass Cafe. Salads, omelets and salmon happen to be some of their strong points.

Frank and Betsies On Greenbay Road in Glencoe. It is a nice lunch place for a special fete and the menu is not ambitious-nice salads, a house pate, salmon etc. Great desserts and fresh homebaked bread. Small and intimate.

on Friday's only, Michael in Winnetka opens for lunch. Not necessarily aligned with her everyday choices, it sounds like; but this birthday isn't an everyday occasion!

I'm also voting for Prairie Grass, even my crabby parents,
in their 70's with the world's worst restaurant karma approve of it.
    Enjoy wherever you go.

Prairie Grass, for sure. But if you need a backup plan, the lunch menu we had at Jilly's today (Evanston Lunch Group™) would also work well, and the food was very good. And there were a fair number of ladies who lunch there, in that age range.

Jacky's Bistro is a good spot in Evanston. One of my favorite restaurants in Evanston.
2545 Prairie Avenue (between Central St & Harrison St)

Also, there's Mount Everest in downtown Evanston for Indian cuisine, the owner is also very nice.
1639 Orrington Avenue (between Church St & Clark St across from the library)

There's Froggy's French Cafe up in Highwood at 306 Green Bay Rd

And then there's Convito's in Plaza Del Lago in Wilmette.
    1515 Sheridan Rd

    Hope that helps. :)

Thanks everyone, I think PGC is a great suggestion, don't think she'd object to that. And I really like it there.

And since she's not that much older than I am, she really is a fabulous aunt for all those "aunt-y" things you can't talk about with your mom!
