My favorite Chinese dish is Orange Beef/Orange Peel Beef, but I am unable to find a decent order anyplace on the North Side. In my seven years living downtown, the only version I've found in Chicago I like is Lao Sze Chuan -- but something similar in LP, Lakeview, Lincoln Sq. etc. would be nice when I don't want to make a trip to Chinatown.

Mei Shung, on Broadway, just south of Bryn Mawr, serves orange beef. I've found the food at Mei Shung to be better than most other Chinese restaurants on the north side.

Ditto. Though not everything is a home run (we've had the occasional clunker), it's our go-to place in the neighborhood. Though I don't believe they have a website, you can find fairly complete list of what's available (with prices) here. Good luck!

It's been a while since I moved ot of the neighborhood, but I always enjoyed the Orange Beef at Dee's and found it to be one of the best versions of this Chinese-American dish anywhere. Big chunks of higher-quality-than-most-places beef tenderloin fried up crispy in a spicy, orangy sauce.

We like the orange beef at Donky(sp). It is vietnamese style so the beef is crispy. It is located on Broadway, south of Argyle in the strip mall that used to house the Blockbuter video. There is a cheap drycleaners, vietnamese grocery store, Rosatti's pizza and a med center in the strip mall. The place has zero ambiance but the owners are friendly and they make a really supurb cafe su da.

Thanks for some new suggestions! I have had the orange beef at Shine Morida and it is the best I've found close to home, but I'm excited to try some of the ones mentioned next time I get a taste for some Chinese.
