I know that Argyle street is not THAT far, but does anyone know of a good dish of pho in the Skokie/Lincolnwood/Evanston/Wilmette hood? Sometimes I'd like to drive 10 minutes instead of 40.

    Hi,

If there is one, then I am surprised.

Unless I make them myself or eat at a friend's home, I haven't found decent soup noodles on the North Shore. When 'Hey Rickey' had an outpost in Deerfield for a while, I went there several times hoping to find soup noodles good enough. Alas it was not to be. Several Chinese restaurants have added soup noodles on their menus, but the price and quality is not what I find in Chicago.

For quality and price, I find the drive to Tank at Argyle and Broadway worth my time and gas. The best Chinese soup noodles was at Fabulous Noodles in Lisle ... which I realize is far away. Otherwise, I go to Seven Treasures in Chinatown.

My friend is an Asian who is always asked where is the best Chinese on the North Shore. She always replies, "I don't know, but there are many fine places in the city."

If something does pop up here, I will be thrilled though I am doubtful.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

In Niles is "Le Saigon de Manila", a filipino/vietnamese hybrid place that my mom has found decent, if not especially noteworthy. It may do for a quick craving.

That's been our experience, too. We expected better Asian food out here, given the preponderance of Asian residents, especially in Skokie, but have been disappointed. The Thai food at Ruby of Siam is good, but we have yet to find (other than Joy Yee in Evanston) a Chinese restaurant above fair to middling, and definitely not anything along the lines of Argyle st. or Chinatown. But then again, that's a high bar!

There's the JoyYee's Noodles outpost in Evanston (next to Davis St. Fish Market?). The one in Chinatown is better, but they have lots of good pan-Asian soup noodle bowls.

I'm not sure if they do the whole pho w/ the extra plate of herbs & sprouts, but I know they do gots good soups there.

I don't know if they are still open but there's one Vietnamese restaurant in Evanston on Clark Street.
