outstanding deal at Shaws

Dinner Saterday night at Shaws Crab House in Woodfield in order to sample some spring smelt. We went last year and missed the window by a couple of days. The Smelt app went in upon sitting down prior to perusing most of the menu. Smelt were small crispy and delicate. gave myself a pat on the back for remembering the seasonal nature of truly great Smelt.

Following the app, we made our decisons on the rest of the meal. On the bottem of the menu were a few combo dinners for two or more; seafood, steak and seafood and crab. All of the dinners included choice of bisque chowder or ceaser salad, creamed spinach and rice, key lime pie or chocolat cake. We had the seafood which consisted of a whole regular size crab cake, two sauteed 10-13 shrimp and four Fundy Bay scallops on top of sauteed spinach for each person. The quality was great, maybe a spice change for the shrimp and scallops would be better but still very good. We got all of this for $26.00 per person. With the 7 doller smelt and the bread service, dinner could not be finished. This is the finest deal I have ever had in an upscale fishhouse.
I do not know whether this deal is in response to economic times or just part of their everyday menu, but it is extreemly welcomed. Anyone know of any other bargains in equivilent atmosphere restaurants.
