A trip to El Presidente on Ashland today brought to mind a thought. Mrs. Trpt likes it for menudo, it's her favorite spot for it and we go there for that reason every so often. I have been going there for thirty years at least. I know it's not that great, there are dozens of places I'd rate higher but every time I go there it brings back so many memories and pleasant associations I find I enjoy myself. Being a musician I have often found myself out late at night after a strenuous job looking for a nosh, often in company of fellow workers, and I can't count the number of times we wound up at El Presidente, along with cops and other late nighters. The long gone Lincoln Avenue spot (Deming? Wellington?) was also a fave. There were times such as after Christmas Eve midnight mass when nothing else was open that El Presidente filled the bill.

So what restaurants do you frequent not just because of the quality of the food but because of some other factor, nostalgia or habit or convenience? Close to home, delivery available, open when you need it?
