    Hey,
My name is Shal I am going to be moving to Chicago in about a month. I am going to surprise my family with the fact that I am pregnant with my 2nd child. I am really really excited. I know that it will be a great night for all of us. There are a ton of Chicago Restaurants. I just want to make sure that I have the right atmosphere before I tell them the great news. I want the restaurant to have a nice atmosphere and with just some amazing food that any American family would be happy with! Please can you help me with this restaurant?
Also I am craving some amazing Hot Dogs! Where are some amazing hot dogs?
    Thank you for everything,
    Shaleen

    Welcome to LTH,

The GNR List - viewtopic.php?f=28&t=20908 - is a good place to begin.

There are many restaurants here that have great atmosphere & cuisine. A specific budget, neighborhood as well as the size of your group will help us to offer suggestions.

Hot Dogs - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2699&hilit=hot+dog - be prepared to wait in line.

Just make sure no one else in the family is having difficulty getting pregnant. We broke the news to the whole family over a dinner out and the response was downright bizarre and people wound up leaving the table in tears. Quite awkward. We didn't know that my wife's brother and his wife had been trying to have kids for years but couldn't. My wife's parents DID know though and could not show happiness for us in front of them.

Teatpuller raises a good point. We've been in the in-laws' position at a number of gatherings. While we have gotten past the point where we would be in tears (usually the result of extra hormones coursing through one's body, not jealousy or pettiness), and we've been open about it with our family to prevent this kind of thing, the awkwardness for everyone would definitely put a damper on an otherwise joyful event.

Assuming that's not an issue for your family, I agree that I'd like to hear more about your preferences, but it seems like you might want a homey, independent restaurant that celebrates your family's heritage (the GNR list is great for that). Of course, Italian is always a good option -- search here for comfy Italian places in your neighborhood. Sabatino's is frequently mentioned as a favorite.

I waited all morning to click on this thread, until just the perfect time when I had a little privacy and was in the right mood. What a disappointment to see that it wasn't porn links after all.

anyway, I had some advice for what I thought this thread was going to be about. For the actual subject matter, not so much.
