Anyone know of a good place for breakfast near Meyers & Butterfield in Lombard/Villa Park? I'll be without access to food for 5 hours (the horror!) and I'll need something substantial and preferably stupendous.

    Thanks!

An Omega is on Highland between Butterfield an 22nd Street.

Otherwise, head up to Roosevelt for Maxfield's in Lombard or Simon's or Kappy's in Villa Park.

Haven't been there in a while, but I remember Lumes on Roosevelt having really dense, good pancakes and always leaving stuffed.

    Lumes House of Pancakes
    180 E Roosevelt Rd
    Villa Park, IL 60181

[Edited since I think the Villa Park Lume's closed down... R.I.P oh well, there is also an Egg Harbor in the Yorktown mall]

http://www.juicyo.com/ Is/Was related to Heaven on Seven. I've only been there for lunch. I'd describe it as a better than average greek diner. It doesn't hurt that it's down the street from Fry's Electronics (oooh, shiny flashing things).

I called a friend of mine who lived in Lombard when I was right around there one am. He told me to bee line it to that Omega. If you are an eggs/pancakes type of person, I will offer you this: I got a veggie omelet and a short stack, and it was dreadful. Granted, I was only there once, and every place can have an off day. The pancakes were gluey, and the eggs were plasticky. I'm a pancake soaker, and I use far too much butter, far too much syrup. It takes an awfully bad pancake for me not to like it as it's just a vehicle for butter and sugar for me. If I was out that way again and looking for b-fast, I would try one of the other joints first. Again - could have been an off day.

P.s. if you like Indian "cabbie joints," (by which, I mean complete dives) I'd put Desi Grill on my short list for after 3pm if you are looking for an eat in "experience," or you wanna grab some stuff to go on your way back to wherever you are going. If that works for you - definitely call ahead and grill them on what they have for specials. Otherwise, I'll stand by what I posted about in that thread.

If you find a decent breakfast, please report back, love to hear about it - I'm around there frequently enough that I have seen the signs of the places that others have mentioned so far.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Are they related to the Omega in Niles and Downer's Grove? I used to love the Niles location (big dessert case, wheee!) but the last time I was there (albeit very late at night) it was filthy and they got Mr. Pie's order wrong. But they recently renovated, so I'll have to try that location again another time.

When we stay in Lombard for mini-vacations, we usually have breakfast at the Omega. Whatever we choose (pancakes, fruit, biscuits & gravy, sausage/bacon) is served in large portions that are good tasting, and will stick with you for a good chunk of the day (Gets us thru a trip to Brookfield Zoo without having to make many snack breaks for the kids). Service is quick and very competent. It is interesting to overhear some of the business conversations occurring while having breakfast, as an assortment of business people are trying to out hustle each other over ham & eggs.

Yes, Lumes has been gone for at least a couple of years and has been replace by what else, a bank. Omega is O.K., but I would go with Juicy O or Egg Harbor in Yorktown. Or, if you want to go a couple of miles east, Eggstacy is on 22nd, just east of Midwest Road, 17W512 22nd St., Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181-4732, (630) 758-3441.

Mike Sula, follow me not, but Tae Fu might be the best Mandarin-American restaurant in the 'burbs, and it's right at 312 East St. Charles road. I know I missed you for today (and it doesn't open until 11), but am leaving this for posterity in case anyone searches for dear old Villa Park (backwards: Krap Alliv, but don't hold that against us). You want the Gan Phong Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Tae Fu Sizzling Beef, Sizzling Rice Soup, Mandarin Chicken Wings, and the Mu Shu Pork.

Gyros Express, on Addison between St. Charles and North Ave., which has been mentioned fondly on LTH several times, is also off the charts for a fast food Greek place, especially the homemade pork souvlaki with tomatoes grown on premises. Both places have been around all of my three decades plus.

I have passed by Tae Fu regularly for YEARS and never ventured in. There's never very many cars and no one has ever recommended them to me. I will definaltely try it now. Thanks.

I've been there twice and they apparently have quite a few off days. The omelets were terrible; very little flavor and filled with cheap, greasy cheese and what might have been canned veggies. I tasted their Pancakes and have to concur with the rubbery texture. Its like a meal you'd get from a bad hotel. This area is a Breakfast desert and I think Omega gets props from the locals just because its there. I have friends that used to live down the block from the Omega in Villa Park/Lombard and after they had their first a meal at Sweet Maple Cafe, they never returned to Omega. I second the Egg Harbor recommendation; they have very filling and very good food for a few dollars more.

I second Maxfield's. It's not too far from where you'll be and it's much better than Omega.

    352 E Roosevelt Rd
    Lombard, IL 60148-4628
    (630) 629-6870

Go north on Meyers to Roosevelt and West on Roosevelt to the Restaurant. It's on the north side of the street.

I ended up at Simon's. What a nice place! I'll have to take my parents—mom would love the giant bakery case and fresh berry crepes. I almost got those, but just because they're fresh berries, that doesn't mean they're not in that syrupy goop, so I ended up with sweet potato pancakes. Very nice and not too sweet like some plain pancakes. It was tough not getting the pancake sandwich—2 pancakes with a layer of off-the-bone ham and eggs—especially after seeing those giant hams in the case in front. I'm kinda kicking myself now. Oh well...a reason to return! I'm often in that area, and I want to go to 621 Diner just west of there on Roosevelt for an egg cream. Thanks all, for the suggestions! This breakfast actually kept me full til 5!

Simon's is always good. I didn't suggest it as I thought it might be too far out of the way. I hate to burst your bubble, but 621 Diner is no more. Something else is currently brewing in that spot. I haven't been by in over a week so I'm not sure of a name yet.

If you're ever out this way again and want an amazing breakfast, I'll meet you at Eggstacy. The first time I ate there I had a Carmelized Pear and Cinnamon Omelette with a side of Ginger Honey Pancakes.

    Take care,

It's so hard to find places with egg creams these days! I was born 40 years too late and in the wrong city.

Pears with eggs? Interesting. How did it taste? Those pancakes sound good!

The omelette was very tasty, as is everything I've had there. If you're in the mood for chocolate, they have chocolate velvet pancakes.

Thanks for posting. This thread got me thinking of the destination breakfast spots in this area and I couldn't really think of any that would get me out of bed. True, the Egg Harbor in the mall is always packed but I personally would drive to Butterfield's Pancake House in Wheaton. Great vibe on the weekend.
