Del Toro's Tex Mex Grill is located on IL-47, north of town in the Wisted's summer. Over the past ten years, I have eaten there a couple of times and I remembered it pretty much as your average Mexican restaurant - a menu little different from any of the other Mexican dinner houses.
I decided to try the place last night as I had one of those Restaurant.com gift certificates for $1.
The chips and salsas were really updated. The chips were lighter than the standard chips and served with two salsas - a roasted salsa and a tomatillo-based salasa. Both had a good amount of heat.
We had the Shrimp "HOT"-chos which were six large shrimp served over a bed of tomatoes and avacados on tortilla chips. The flavors were really well developed and the dis was colorful.
We split the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. Personally, I though it was better than the Tango Sur overall. It was served with some non-descript garlic potatoes, and a beautiful medley of fresh vegetables.
We also split a chicken and avocado sandwich served on a pretzel bun. It too was very good.
The total tab with two iced teas and tip was $45.
