Coincidentally, I'm putting together a post on a different Frank's, a fifty-some-year-old place that serves what I consider the best Midwestern tavern-style pizza I've had.

Wait a sec...is this Franks located near the Brickyard maybe on Belmont or somewhere near? I now remember a real old school pizza sign around that area that you just kind of new the place was good by the looks of the 50's neon sign. I said I was headed there the next day and just kind of forgot. Regardless cant wait to read it.[/quote]

Well I finally remembered to try Frank's pizzeria on Belmont and you can across another one off the list. Coincidentally the night I met ReneG he was going to suggest we give Frank's a try sometime soon. Turns out I just went there the night before to see what this old school pizza parlor thats been there since 1952 was all about.

Its got the looks going for it

Upon entry it felt like stepping into a timewarp. The night I went there was no one else dining in the small room with about 8 booths and a few tables. We sat down and had to ring the bell near the entry to the back so they knew they had customers. Aside from the history of the place, which wasn't on there, I had no use for a menu and as soon as our waitress came I told her we were ready to order. I said we'll have a large sausage and she paused and looked at me like an old Italian grandma and said "that's' it?" "thats it" I said and she went back to put in the order. As I sat waiting I wondered how many people went on first dates here back in the day and really enjoyed the dining room which had Frank Sinatra on the speakers and had the classic 1950's Italian supper club feel.

It took about 20 minutes and the tavern style pizza they were famous for was ready to go. Frank's makes their own sausage and along with the sauce they were my favorite components of this pizza. What I didn't care for as much as other tavern style spots was the dough and crust. It was just really plain. Crispness wise it was weird because some pieces were really crisp and others not so much. If I lived in the area it would be my go to pizza spot for delivery and dine in.

On Tuesdays all pizzas are half off for take out and on Wednesdays all pies are half off for dining in. All in all its another classic Chicago 1950's tavern style pizza parlor. The real Chicago style.
