Wally & Agador's, which closed a few weeks ago, seems to have reopened and might be more of a coffee shop / cafe with a light fare menu... I believe it's called Paris In Chicago. the inside--from what i could tell--looks very similar or the same as Wally & Agador's was, so presumably it's the same owner. can't find any info anywhere online though... there were 2 or 3 sheets of menus on the outside window with Paris in Chicago @ the top, but I didn't see any other signage.

Wally & Agador's IMO had some of the best sandwiches in the lakeview area... It just never really caught on. Hopefully their new stuff is still good!

    anyone know anything about it?

    r.i.p. openings/closings thread!

It is too bad that W&A's closed because the sandwiches were excellent. I think the biggest problems were a lack of publicity and a poor location for an upscale sandwich shop. This place would have been a gold mine in the Loop . . . maybe even on Broadway. But in a stretch where you find mostly bars, it seemed to be empty most of the time.

Anyway, whatever has entered the old W&A spot does not seem to be from Michael Lachowicz based upon the following blurb from the Chicago Magazine Dish newsletter:
After only seven months in Boystown, Wally & Agador’s Gourmet Café, Michael Lachowicz’s little sandwicheria/gourmet takeaway, has closed. “I sold it to a French guy who found me by accident at Restaurant Michael,” says Lachowicz. “I think he is going to do a food operation.”. . .

In addition to the exquisite cuisine available for dining at Michael, the restaurant still owned and run by Michael Lachowicz, their food items are also available for carry-out, according to an e-mail I received from the restaurant. These sound like they are packaged for cooking at home, rather than placed into carry-out containers when hot like typical carry-out. Stuff includes:

-Michael's Fully cooked, Prime Beef Short Ribs, just heat and serve! $18.00 per pound
-Whole, Brown Sugar Brined, Organic Turkey,Ready to Roast! $3.00 per pound
-Ready to roast, Marinated Prime Chateaubriand of Beef Tenderloin with Sauce $19.00 per pound
-House Smoked Wild Alaskan King Salmon $14 per pound (Whole) $19 per pound (Sliced)
-Country style Pate or Duck Liver Mousse with Traditional garnishes $9.00 per pound
-Grand Marnier Valhrona Chocolate Truffles $1.25 per piece
-Restaurant Michael's Signature Gougeres (warm cheese puffs) $12.00 per dozen
-Potato and Black Truffle Soup $18.00 per quart
-Brown Sugar Roasted Butternut Squash Soup $12.00 per quart
-Michael's Creamy Mashed Potatoes Ready to Heat and Serve! $3.00 per serving
-Parmesan Gratin Potato $18.00 (Serves 6)

I have no idea whether they can do sandwiches; you'd have to ask.
