I was thinking about going here for dinner this week. Has anyone been recently/can someone share some experiences about their meals here?

It's been a little over a year now since Michael McDonald took over as chef from Martial Noguier (around Sept 2008 I think). I went there this past year and overall I thought it was pretty good, not bad, not great. A few of the dishes were excellent (notably the leek gnocchi appetizer and the sticky toffee date cake dessert), but most were just okay, with many of them suffering from bland taste, and several being somewhat skimpy with the portion size (including the gnocchi). Service was a bit hit-and-miss too.

I've had the same experience. Some things have been just amazing (Wagyu beef short ribs... I really liked the Chicken and Biscuts actually) and the Sticky Toffee Date Cake was one of the best things I've ever eaten... But the last time I went everything was just a little off, I felt. My dessert wasn't great, and neither was my entree. I didn't finish my dessert.

It's hit or miss, but for the price, I think it's not a bad deal to try.
