I've been obsessed about trying a burger here since it was The Village Cafe. Now that they changed to Capone's and they feature live music, I thought it was about time I came. I planned on dropping by later tonight for the show, but since it was a fella that sings songs from "the 1940s through today" and encourages people to come up and sing with him, I stayed and had lunch instead.

The place has a really nifty, kinda sexy look, with a hammered copper bar, a red, black and gold scheme and lots of candles (unlit when I was there).

The burger was not the best I've ever had, but pretty tasty and dirt cheap (grand total of $5.50). The fries were outstanding; skin-on, lightly seasoned and not too greasy (just greasy enough). Apparently there is a break in food service; I can't remember when lunch is, but dinner starts at 4 or 5 (I got there at 3). The bartender/waitress called up the chef and told him to cook for me anyway, which I thought was nice. After I started taking pictures and they thought I was KGB (I reluctantly admitted I wasn't, though I was an LTH'er), the owner came out to chat me up and offer me a free drink coupon. He told me that they're trying to have live music every weekend (some free, some with a cover). March 7th is their "formal wear" Oscar Party. For $20, you get a choice of entree and one free drink; there will be champagne, games, and prizes. Not bad. Mr. Pie and I will be coming by to test out their drinks soon. Another plus: the kitchen is open til 4 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and since the place is within walking distance, this may prove a nifty little haunt for the Pie and I on late dates.
