Ysabel's Grill, Filipino and Thai cuisine. Newer place as of April 2010 on Irving Park Rd.
A first for Six Corners and Portage Park a Filipino owned eatery.
Drive right up to the front of the place pay a buck for on street parking, stop right next door at the liquor store for a six pack.
The wife and I have never had Filipino food sit down at a restaurant. Once seeing the menu we opted to pass on trying the Thai dishes with the thought of "When in Rome...."
We tried the chicharones...home made pork rinds and the pork/beef mini eggrolls for appetizers. Both were made fresh and really tasty. Went well with beer.
For dinner we had the squid sizzler plate and the sinigang pork with the tamarind broth. Both had great flavors...things we've never encountered, were very fresh and presented well with nice size portions. We also ordered a to-go mixed pancit noodle dish for a hungry teen at home.
The place has multiple video monitors playing karaoke songs and they bring you a microphone and the song book asking you to participate on the weekends. If you are wanting a romantic corner table that's quiet, you won't find that available if the karaoke is up and running.
We are looking forward to heading back to try more new filipino dishes soon. Maybe even give one of the Thai dishes a whirl too.
