    Gunner's
    1467 N. Milwaukee Ave.
    Chicago, IL 60622

I hit the soft opening for a few cocktails last night. They said they're taking the food menu slow. Right now it's burgers and totally addicting rosemary chips. It's in the old Cafe Bionda space. It seems to have a nice neighborhood feeling.

    So it's basically a bar?

Right now it's a bar with burgers. They have a full service kitchen, but they don't have a full menu yet. Sounds like a smart way to do things while they get their legs.

Gunner's is owned/run by Eric and Dan, two brothers who were long-time bartenders at the Matchbox, and they've taken their drink-making prowess with them! Their idea is to open a "bar" rather than a "lounge", which I think is a great idea in that location. Their kitchen is quite big and well-equipped, so eventually they plan to expand their food menu. In the mean time, the goal is great drinks, great beer, great food, and no attitude. (Well, no snobbiness anyway, but there may occasionally be surliness...)

Tony from the Matchbox consulted on both the food and drinks menu. (He's still at the Matchbox, too.)

Full disclosure: these folks are my friends, but I got to know them by being a regular at the Matchbox, so I'm fully confident that they can run a great bar.

Me: Why are these rosemary chips so craveable?
    Dan: Fried in lard.
Me: (smiling from ear to ear)
