If the Weather Gods hold up, I plan to attend Jazz Fest Glen Ellyn on Saturday night. http://taphousegrills.com/ appears to be the food vendor for the event. Any good? If not, any recommendations for a casual spot in downtown Glen Ellyn? Thanks in advance.

Tap House does a lot of local event catering. The owner is a big Glen Ellyn booster and good for him. Personally, however, I find the food at Shannon's (across the street) is world's better. The Shannon's owners have opened a butcher shop (Clancy's Corner) in Lombard and serve the same meat in the restaurant.

Another big plus for Shannon's--nice covered outdoor patio in the back with patio heaters should it actually get chilly again and a great fireplace. Although you'll find a lot of families at Shannon's, the overall atmosphere is more adult than Tap House---where you might encounter an entire Little League team behaving just as you'd expect a post-game team to behave.

I always substitute a house salad for fries and get the mustard vinagrette. Great salad portion with romaine lettuce, carrots and other standard salad ingredients. My favorite sandwich is the Pauly's Fish but they have good burgers and a really nice potato soup with corned beef. I'm not so much a fan of the corned beef burger....FWIW

A week or so ago they had Bell's Oberon on tap, too.

Two other Glen Ellyn favorites of mine are Vittorio's for family-run Italian and Cab's Wine Bar. All are with in blocks of Tap House.

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully, patio heaters and fireplaces won't be an issue tomorrow night. :D

    We ended up eating at:
    Barones Of Glen Ellyn
    475 Pennsylvania Ave.
    Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
    (630) 858-0555

I had the spinach linguine with garlic and oil. Favorite Dining Companion had the chicken vesuvio. The food was good. Our server was not.

    Jazz Fest was awesome.

After seeing a movie at the Glen, we walked by a restaurant called Gratto. It's across the street from Cab's. Anyone tried that place?

Barone's is where we take the kids for pizza. It's decent enough pizza but the draw for them is the game room. It's also a good place for large groups since we can put all the tables in the room's center together.

I've eaten at Gratto twice. Once to try it and once to confirm that my first experience was the norm, not the exception. The service has huge issues, there's no waiting area, and the food is quite unremarkable. It's the "new" place in town so it's busy. I never felt compelled to post about it because I don't have anything good to say (isn't there a shrug emoticon?)
