We are meeting some friends at the Chicago Hilton for dinner on Thursday night. I'm looking for recommendations for a good place to go for dinner and a couple drinks.

We would like something that is walking distance from that area (8th and Michigan), around $100 per couple and nothing too adventurous. Walking distance to us would be within about 1 mile or so.

Opera, Chicago Firehouse and Gioco all come to mind but having only been to Opera previously I don't know which would be best. I know The Gage is north of that area but my wife and I have been there several times recently and we would like something new.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If tapas feels too "adventurous" you're also near Custom House as well as Park Grill, which is a solid (not especially adventurous) option in Millennium Park.

Mercat a la Planxa would be my pick as well. I ate at Opera a few weeks ago and enjoyed it a lot. And remember, there's now a Lou Malnati's at 8th and State.
