    afromen,

I believe you're right. It's called Real Urban Barbecue and it's in the former Stash's space, which is just feet from my office. I hope it's great but would settle for good or even passable.

I take it it's not related to the RUB in NYC? Different words in the acronym, I see, but hope abounds!

yep....they will be cooking on a Cookshack cooker. Owner is a BBQ guy (competiton and backyard cook) and has been in the food/restaurant biz for quite some time. Wishing them all the luck in the world and hoping for some good things from them.

I went over to the Taste of Highland Park yesterday for one thing - the mini pulled pork sandwich from Real Urban BBQ. I ended up getting three. It was very good, with a sweet sauce that they provided in a squirt bottle if you wanted to add a little or a lot (they obviously are from Highland Park! ). They also had a couple of shakers with seasoning in them. I put their dry rub on one sandwich (excellent!) and another shaker they called "spice" that was good too, but I think I liked the dry rub more. So far, so good. I grabbed a menu as well. They said they'll be opening in October. Looking forward to it. :)

They were also sporadically handing out hot links, which I liked better than the pulled pork ( a bit sweet for me). Mid October opening. Very excited.

What will be fun is to be able to try the different sauces on everything (and the spice shakers). I'm a big fan of Famous Dave's Texas Pit, so if you are familiar with that, you know that it's not like Sweet Baby Ray's or the sweet sauce we had on the pulled pork.

Interesting - a new bbq spot called something like "The Rail BBQ" opened up recently in Glenview right off of Waukegan Rd in a strip mall. My brother said it was pretty good (he is not a discrminating foodie, so take it for what its worth).

Interesting that they smoke the brisket for 14 hours and the pulled pork (presumably shoulder) for 12. Is that normal? I have always done my brisket in much less time than pork, and it still usually ends up dry.

Yes. That's normal. Not necessarily the exact number of hours (that depends on the particular shoulder or brisket you are cooking that day and the prevailing weather conditions), but the fact that shoulder cooks quicker than brisket.

i have high hopes for this, as well. I work in highland park, and am in dire need on a new lunch spot.

I sometimes drive all the way to Al's Deli for lunch, which is well worth it, but i think people are starting to notice my 1+ lunch breaks.

I was at the Halloween celebration in Port Clinton Square this afternoon and pressed my face up to the window to see what was going on inside this space. Based on what I saw they have a lot of work to do, it would be a real feat to get them open by November 8. I am looking forward to this place.

Do you have an affilation with the ownership of this place? I'm asking because you are tasting items before their actual opening. If so, could you please clarify your relationship so that all of us reading this thread understand can exactly where you're coming from with your posts?
