I'm looking for a kosher restaurant in the north side of the city that's open for dinner on Mondays. Any recommendations?

Depends on your definition of "restaurant" or "north side". Between downtown and Skokie, I only know of 2 places still standing:

    1. The hockers at Tel-Aviv Pizza [California near Devon] will sell you dairy in a fast-food atmosphere, but personally I do not find it worth the hocking.

    2. There is a meat place at Devon/Kedzie called Great Chicago, but it isn't all the great [though better than TA Pizza]. Also fast-food environment. Decent jumbo hot dog. The lower-end stuff will work better than things like, say, the chinese food.

    3. Precisely *across the street* from the northside, you will find: Manghal Grill 1805 Howard St. I think it is very good+. Nice setting, good kababs, interesting salads. Almsot as tasty as the Halal kabab shops at Lawrence/Kedzie.

    Turkob,

Taboun Grill would fit the bill. --> Link

Definitely the two already suggested - Taboun Grill in Skokie (http://taboungrill.com/) and Shallots Bistro in Skokie (http://shallotsbistro.com/) are both excellent and I highly recommend both-

Other choices that are also good - Hy Life Bistro in Skokie (http://www.hylifebistro.com/), Manghal Grill in Evanston (http://manghalgrill.com/) and Mizrahi Grill in Highland Park (http://www.mizrahigrill.com/) are also great -

Shallots and Hy Life are perhaps the most upscale of the restaurants - these are all meat for dairy there is not much left other than Slice of Life which is the sister restaurant to Hy Life Bistro

With respect to Kosher restaurants, ten years may as well be a century. What's surprising about that list is that Shallots (very good but pricey), Taboun (just okay) and Mizrahi Grill (very good) are still around. Not that they shouldn't be, but the community support is inconsistent. Bond Coffee on California (North of Touhy) is a relatively new addition. Milt's on Broadway in Lakeview also popped up in the last decade. While not a restaurant, the Mariano's on McCormick and Touhy has a Kosher meat department and will grill food (burgers/steaks/lamb chops) to order.

My daughter-in-law is quite fond of Ken's Diner & Grill on Dempster in Skokie.
