    Hey all,
I'm coming back to Chicago for Lollapalooza this weekend. I moved away from Chicago last October, so I have a good idea of where to eat (no need to direct me to the GNR list). I am staying in River North, coming with my girlfriend who has never been to Chicago. We are going to Veersaway in the West Loop Saturday night and I didn't see anything on the site that talked about the place. For those that have been there, are there any must haves/standouts?

Also, my girlfriend has a gluten allergy so I'd be curious to see if anyone knew of any restaurants that had gluten-free menus.

    Thanks,
    Sklarithy

    See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=19239

It may not have shown up in the search engine. But it is better to use google to search the site (i.e. type "site:lthforum.com Veersaway").

    Hi,

You may want to read and update to this thread on gluten free dining.

A good a thread as any to talk about the fancy-pants food offerings at the fest this year. I'm curious to hear how well it goes over/they pull it off.

Thanks for the list. I will make sure not to eat at any of these places this week while they're preoccupied with the concert. At least one - Hoosier Mama - has decided to close the store so they can supply the tourists instead.

will Kuma's be open this weekend even though they are a vendor at the concert?

It used to be so simple. Lee's Concession's Chicken on a Stick was the best offering and all one needed. Now I have absolutely no idea what to get the one day I'm there......

The Southern has announced a limited "Best of" menu for this weekend so that they can focus on the concert. I guess I appreciate the honesty.

Didn't get to sample much yesterday because everyone in my group was there on VIP passes and managed to sneak me in all day (free food and beverages in the lounge) but did share a pulled pork and slaw sandwich from Goose Island with one of my buddies and it was delicious--especially with a few splashes of hot sauce from one of the other booths. Great deal for $5--very nice sized sandwhich--not too heavily sauced, tangy, a bit sweeter than I like but not too much, fresh and crunchy slaw on top.

More to report tomorrow when we'll all be hanging with the masses (as far as I know...)

For what it's worth, I've had a few friends hit Kuma's at Lolla and report back wait times of - wait for it - scant minutes, if that. I'd be curious to learn how a lot of these places adapted their methods for the fest. I'll be sure to check them out tomorrow.

Did anyone attend Lollapalooza this past weekend? I was just wondering, because while I love the bands, the food is a big draw for me. While I was there on Sunday I tried the Glazed and Infused apple fritter because they were out of the other items (vanilla bean and I think lime doughnuts). It was good, but I would have loved to try the other ones!

I also had some Wow Bao because I didn't want a full meal (I am always careful about eating big meals at music festivals). I purchased the Spicy box, which had two Mongolian beef bao in it. Yum...And the thing I always get at Lolla is Graham Elliot's delicious parmesan and truffle popcorn. They were having a hard time keeping up with the orders! My husband and kid had the fried ravioli from Tuscany, which was piping hot. And my son also had ice cream from the Original Rainbow Cone stand. I'd love to hear about other food experiences there!

I didn't get too excited by anything, except perhaps the $25 Big Gulp of wine. Seriously, I had Duffs of Doom's taco salad puff, which was a bit disgusting. Graham Elliot's fries, which were good but I'm more of a skinny fry fan. Smoke Daddy's BBQ chicken sandwich, which was OK. (Came with good seasoned chips.)

For the 2nd year in a row, I worked at the Edzo's booth for 4 hours on Sunday and had a blast--only thing I ate (more like inhaled) was a post-shift cheeseburger and Gale Gand's Rootbeer Float--both were absolutely delicious! Great day at the fest--perfect weather and a great closing set by Phoenix (after sitting through the first hour of the Cure--could only endure so much for the sake of sentimentality and the ole bucket list). Wish I'd had a chance to sample some of the other fare--my partner in crime for the day (except when I ditched him for my shift) said that the Smoke Daddy pulled pork sandwich was tasty (I think he said it was pulled pork).

    Looking forward to next year!

The third year in a row the wife and I have taken our almost 6 year old..Disclaimer w get free tickets..However we always go early and usually leave when getting a little overcrowded and the under age kids begin to sway. This year we made it from 1 until 7:30 with the kid in tow.. The kids area is awesome and she loves it. she met some kids and kept busy so we also enjoyed the Wine in Big Gulp like vessels. Now the food! We had a great Bacon sausage on a stick from Big Fork Brands served with a Templeton Rye BBQ dipping sauce. A Pepperoni pizza from Bar Toma, an Amazing Classic Cheeseburger from Edzo's served by Boudreaulicious! Slagel Farms Beef, American Cheese with Mustard & Ketchup. Hands down the best bite of the day I could have had 3 of these things! On the way out some Triple Truffle fries from Franks & Dog's decent but I am not a waffle fry guy so..All in all really good offerings for a festival and a lot of fun.

We had the Wisconsin cheddar burger at Edzo's, the lobster corndog from Grahamwich and a cup of Gale's root beer (not a float) on Friday. We didn't go on Saturday and on Sunday, we got an apple fritter (really wanted that lime doughnut!) from Glazed and Infused, a Mexican chicken salad from The Salsa Truck (or whatever that place was called), the truffle fries from Franks 'n' Dawgs and the chicken teriyaki sandwich from Kamehachi.

Everything was pretty good, but the lines to get them were brutal. The chicken teriyaki sandwich was probably the most surprisingly successful- the chicken wasn't dry or overcooked, the pretzel bun was perfectly soft and chewy. It could have had a little more sauce, but it had fried onions and I think a slice of lotus or something- I overheard someone say that's what it was. Whatever it was, it was delicious.

I had the $25 bottle of wine as well - I normally don't drink at sporting events or music festivals, because I hate portapotties, but yeah, I had to try it because I was excited about it too. But I figured it was late enough in the evening that I'd be okay. They were all out of the wine at the first stand I tried, and then the second only had white wine choices, so we got the pinot grigio. I didn't love it at first, but it did do its job, and I quite enjoyed dancing around to the Cure. :) Wonder if we could have an LTH meetup there next year...?
