    Hi all--

My favorite cousin-in-law posted an inquiry over on FB: "anybody know any good Catering places in/around McHenry?" Can anyone here help her out? I am suspecting said event might be something like a christening (for twins!!) and the guests will be somewhat unadventurous eaters. Please help us out, LTH!

    Thanks, Jen

    HI,

I would go look for restaurants in the McHenry area that received good reviews. It may not be many, but it is a good place to start.

Captain Porky's on 41 does catering or at least you can pick it up to go. There is a constant flow of people picking up food for parties at his place.

If BBQ is your fancy, Big Ed's in North Chicago could take care of you.

My favorite caterer is Appetizers by Chef Paul in Gurnee. He is a favorite because I know him and know his philosophy: he makes as much as possible from scratch.

I used to have a favorite BBQ very close to McHenry. Unfortunately Big O's has been gone a few years. I lived for his Sloppy O's, which I just realized was a re-use of burnt ends. No wonder I loved it.

When it comes to McHenry proper, I just don't know enough.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

We were at the McHenry County Fair last weekend, and speaking of BBQ, we had darn good pork and chicken from this guy:

His biz is all catering with no sit down restaurant.

    Jen,

Sorry I didn't think of this before as I drive by it all the time. Crystal Lake Rib House and Catering Co. has signs out front saying they do whole pig roasts. They have a catering menu on their website. I've never eaten there as I am a smoker and prefer to do all my own 'Q so you might want to visit them and taste what they have to offer. They are at the SW corner of E Terra Cotta Ave (IL 176) and Terra Cotta Rd.

I have used quite a few caterers in the Crystal Lake area for various employee events.

Crystal Lake Rib House is pretty good bit they can be pretty expensive but the food has been good.

Three Chefs in Crystal lake has a pretty good reputation around town although I have never used them personally.

Coleman's has a mobile grill and puts out some pretty good food.
