As an avowed city-dweller , who avoids
Schaumburg and
the land beyond O'Hare,at all costs,

I found myself in Roselle around
The Feeding Hour.Recalling a bevy of
South Indian restaurants in and around Schaumburg, we made a beeline for 645 E. Algonquin Road.
Since my better half is from Kerala (The Land of the Coconuts) I wanted to be able to find some authentic non- vegetarian South Indian food.
Udupi Palace is the only Devon Restaurant serving South Indian Cuisine (so much varied from typical N. Indian Food)- but only approaches the
dishes without meat/fish, etc.
What a great find we encountered in Schaumburg!
The service was warm, friendly and well informed. Our waiter had been a camerman for films in India, before relocating here.
We could tell he missed the action of Film Making- as well as his family in India.
The Thali Plate- a medley of small dishes- an Indian Sampler (we had the veg version) if you will, was served with curded rice (a S. Indina Specialty, and nan.
The variety of flavors was amazing.I especially liked an Okra dish that tasted like woodsy mushrooms cooked for a long time...)
Think of Korean Panchan at its finest more that Tapas- The Thali Plate assortment will introduce many flavors of South Indian cooking to
those "not" in the know.
I had the Butter Chicken (aka Chicken Makhani) a tasty dish of boneless chicken stewed in a red colored curry, spicy, but not off the hook.
The Garlic Nan I ordered came wellcooked- with a flavor profile unique from Kahns BBQ Garlic Nan- and others that I've eaten.
We also had their
Chai- which- is one of
THE BEST, I've had in a restaurant.
(almost as tasty as some of girlfriends "Auntees" and Cousins have served me ! )
And- this coming Thursday, the 31st of March,2011- they will serving an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT-SPECIAL-DOSA-DINNER-BUFFET!
Dosa's for the uninformed-are the thin crepe like pancake that is typically rolled around a variety of fillings from savory potatoes to other
cooked veggies. This Buffet includes unlimited Dosa's of your choice,Upma,Idly,Wada, and Bombay Chat........all for only $8.99!
Apparently the past 9 years has been good for the owner- who is also a Distributor of South Indian Snacks and Sweets- as well as the owner
of the Grocery Store (which his wife and lovely/charming 1st grade daughter work very effectively) next door- that carries many items from Kerala (South India)
Well worth a 2nd trip to The-Land-Beyond-O'Hare!
