A little over a year ago, I wrote:

In news that is sure to send shock waves rippling through every corner of this forum, Blu Sushi (which took over the Hotel Orrington space vacated by Narra) is now Futami Sushi.

Futami Sushi now has several taped signs saying, "CLOSE TODAY". Except they were also there yesterday and the day before and...

In other Locations of the Damned news, 2546 - 2548 W. Peterson Ave. is now "Doostan Restaurant -- Fine Persian Cuisine". May be interesting.

More details on the new hours of Mitchell's, on Clybourn. Open till 9 Thursdays and Sundays. Open 24 hours Friday and Saturdays!

Heartening news for what it says about the economy. Soon after the collapse, Mitchell's retrenched to closing around 3 every afternoon. Maybe the collapse is uncollapsing.

Their lunch/brunchtime business today was booming.

There was an article just last week about a part-time bookkeeper at Hackney's accused of embezzling over $150,000 of the restaurant's money into her personal account.

Does business insurance cover things like that? I don't imagine it's the reason they're closing the restaurant -- I'd guess it's underperforming. They were pretty empty when we were there, but it was kind of late on a weeknight so I didn't think anything of it.

The Milwaukee Avenue restaurant row in Wheeling is not what it once was.

Not by default, no. Employee theft is usually a separate coverage from general liability.

Here's my guess: Underperforming unit + good-sized shrinkage + nice-sized piece of property = that's what they close.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that that property, perhaps with Le Francais next door, becomes a strip mall.

I doubt there will be any rush to put a new restaurant there: the bloom seems to be off the Wheeling Restaurant Row rose with closures at Claim Jumper and Don Roth's.

I was always amazed that Sage Grill stayed open as long as it did. It was decent, but I have not felt compelled to go there in a couple of years, and it is usually empty.

Polish deli to open in Dyer,In
Taste of Poland is slated to open May 8 at 1058 W. U.S. 30, in a strip mall just east of Calumet Avenue and U.S. 30.

"There is no store like this in the area," said Marlena Aleksiejew, spokeswoman for the deli.

The shop will offer fresh meat and hot food available for carryout; there will be no in-store dining.

Taste of Poland will sell a variety of items imported from Poland, including grocery products, dairy, cosmetics and magazines. Polish bread will be shipped in from a Polish company in U.S., Aleksiejew said.

I haven't heard or read anything about it, but some restaurant, by some average chef, I guessed opened yesterday. Next, or something like that. I'm sure its just your typical diner fare, so I almost didn't even post about it. Think its in the west loop. I'm sure if anyone is interested, it will be real easy to gets seats. I'm sure no one is going to go to this abomination! lol

Everest Burger (!) has opened in Glencoe/Winnetka (right on the border, AKA Hubbard Woods). It's in a strip mall on the site of the former Wholly Guacamole, which moved a half a block south, into the former Boston Blackie's space, and changed its name to Guanajuato. Got it? :)

    Anyway, here's the info:
