My girlfriend and I tried the Tap House Grill in Highwood Sunday night. As some of you know, they have a few more locations in the southwest suburbs. I heard they had an all you can eat fried chicken special for $10, and the menu looked inviting overall. One thing that's nice about it - they are open late 7 days a week (open until 12 on a Sunday). They allow you to create your own beer flights with a number of selections available (I believe there were at least 25 on tap). My g/f got the pulled pork sandwich which had onion strings on it, and she loved it. I got the fried chicken, and what made it great for me was I could have whatever pieces I wanted, so being a white meat guy, I went with a few breasts. They cut the breasts similar to Joe's Seafood and Prime Steak, so they are smaller, but seem to have a lot of meat on there. Fries (Kennebec potatoes) were also excellent, and it even came with a side of country gravy which was pretty good too. I'm not a cole slaw fan, but my g/f said it was great (and she normally doesn't care for it). The server was really attentive and friendly. We are hoping this wasn't a fluke meal, because we love the location, the late hours, and it's a pretty nice place overall. I noticed on Tuesdays they have a burger special for $3 you get their regular burger or $4 a Wagyu beef burger (normall over $12). I get nervous about their location on the corner of Green Bay and Highwood Ave because I've seen a few places come and go at that spot in the last 30+ years).

I went this past Tuesday night for their $3 Prime Burger/$4 Kobe Burger special (available every Tuesday night). I decided to go Kobe and I have to say it was good but not great. The meat texture was mushy and not very flavorful. I was really hungry and since the price was right, I went for a Prime Burger after that. This burger was amazing. Cooked perfectly, it was juicy, tender and delicious served on a nice brioche bun. They do charge an extra $1 with the special for lettuce, tomato and cheese (though personally I skip all that anyway). The kennebec fries are great as are the tater tots (if you are a fan). They charge $1 for the fries/tots with the special. I have to say that I have heard more and more people say that Kobe is overrated, especially for burgers. They say the consistency of the meat isn't really right for a burger. Anyway, I'm 2 for 2 with this place, so far so good. Very good.

We go to their St Charles location every few months. I usually have either the pulled pork or the Cuban and cannot resist the tater tots which are always hot and crispy. My vegetarian partner likes the red pepper hummus wrap or one of the flatbreads. Neither of drinks beer but that certainly is a main feature. I didn't realize they had expanded so much, I just knew of the Westmont location and that they were taking over Emmett's in Oswego.

Mark Grimes was a Tap House franchisee. Last year he went independent with the new name. I've noticed lights are out for couple days. Some yelper posted this store is closed.

That corner, while seemingly a good location and visible has been somewhat cursed for years. The Tap House was hanging on in recent years (and I seemed to end up there about once a month) and then it became the Barrel Crossing. I think I went to BC twice.

Too many overpriced restaurants in Highwood, not much traffic anymore.
But... 405 Sheridan is for sale (again) asking $360K. 2600 SF bldg + 14 parking spaces. Former sushi place almost across from Curry Hut.
