As far as I can tell, Slim's hasn't been mentioned on LTH. I've only been there once and took my food to go, so I can't give a thorough, wide-ranging review but I think it is a great addition to the neighborhood.

I ordered a cheeseburger and curly fries. They have freshcut, regular fries too, but I'm a sucker for a curly fry. The cheeseburger was decent. Their website says they use fresh meat delivered daily but I couldn't tell/taste a discernible difference between other fast food joints where they presumably use frozen meat. I chalk this up to the size of the patty more than the quality of the meat. I wish they would showcase their meat more by having larger patties that were more loosely-formed. That said, it wasn't bad, I'd rate it a 6.5/10. Topping were fresh, the bun was substantial without bread-overload. The curly fries were delicious, they were pretty crispy with a perfect crunch:fluff ratio, even with the walk home.

The food isn't mindblowing, but it's solid. I appreciate the touches that put it above other North Center/Lincoln Square fast-food joints (and the place that was there before Slims) in my eyes--the fresh meat and bread, homemade sauces and dressings. Yelp has a few comments about a good Italian Beef, which intrigues me, though I remain skeptical (it is Yelp). I suspect one of the owners was who took my order and he was pleasant and helpful. It's clear the owners care about the food they're making and the customers they're serving, and that's enough to get me to return.

I had the chicken "gyro" there and it was more than decent. The hot dogs looked standard Chicago, and had all the trimmings from what I saw. Nice place and people overall.

I agree with everything the OP said. From the outside, the place doesn't look like much

But the burgers, cooked to order, with no frills, are far better than average for the style

    Same goes for the fries

Went to Slim's over the weekend with a couple of kids (one mine the other a friend if kid one). Nothing much to report other than they are still doing a good job. Fresh burgers, decent hot dog and excellent fries. Just want to send some well deserved love there way.

I'm not sure what's going on there, but it seems like there are a bunch of Uber Eats (I think) folks there waiting. Kind of weird, but I guess whatever it takes.

They do a brisk delivery business for sure.

I've been known to order a burger, pizza puff and/or shake from time to time.

Slims is temporarily closed according to their website, yelp and answering machine. It’s unclear when they will re-open but possibly as late as January 2021.
