D'Cuba Restaurant

I was with a few friends yesterday catching a late lunch. After driving around the area, one of them suggested we try some Cuban food. I had never tried it before so I was unsure of what to expect. We drove up to D'Cuba Restaurant in the Belmont Central area located on 5653 W. Fullerton Ave. (Between N. Austin Ave. & N. Central Ave.).

There was a large family gathering in there at the time we walked in so we were delightfully greeted with a vast array of dishes for our hungry eyes to wander through while we made our way to the table. The cuban sandwiches came at high recommendation by a friend especially their Sandwich Medianoche. (Baked thin egg bread with roast pork, ham, mustard, swiss cheese, and dill pickles.)

They were out of the special bread used for the Medianoche so the waitress suggested the traditional Sandwich Cubano as an alternative since it is identical to the Medianoche, but with crispier bread. I had my sandwich with a side of Arroz con Gandules (Spiced Rice with Pigeon Peas). Along with the rice, my friends ordered Yuca Frita con Mojo (Cassava Root fries with Garlic Sauce) and Platanos Maduros (Fried Sweet Plaintains).



We finished off the meal with some Cafe con Leche, though our nice waitress suggested we have the Vanilla or Mango Flan... tempting, but we were happily full, any more would have sent us into a food coma.

All in all, I was quite pleased with my first experience with Cuban food and look forward to coming to this place again and perhaps trying the other items on the menu that caught my eye (Croquettes, Cerviche, Mojitos...).
