This afternoon I had lunch at TAC Quick. At first, I was the only customer, then a few other tables entered - all were Thai natives, ordering off the Thai menu. I asked the waitress about the Thai menu - and instead of shooing me away, she returned with the menu.

    ...

TRANSLATED (I think perhaps it is Erik M's translation).

Very nice - and enjoyable. I ordered the Chicken with fried basil and preserved egg - something I had eaten from TAC Quick before, but only as takeout. This is a great dish - spicy and hot with the fried basil contrasting nicely with the sweetness of the fried preserved eggs. Definitely also something rather hard to make yourself at home.

Looking at the dishes people around me were eating, the Som Tom is quite popular. There is an appetize on both the Thai and American menus that involves meatballs and herbs in spring roll wrappers that you wrap at the table - apparently there is a Thai and an American preparation of this dish that differs - looks to be a very tasty dish.

Overall I think TAC Quick is my current favorite place for getting unusual Thai (unusual by American standards at least). The tastes are more complex and overall better, at least in my opinion, than at Spoon. Furthermore, the overall experience is much nicer - especially now that getting the translated menu is as simple as asking for the Thai menu - nothing really secret about it at all.

Thanks for the review. We need to get all our old Thai places at least capsule-reviewed here fast. Erik's menu for TAC Quick will be posted shortly.

This afternoon I took myself back to TAC Quick again - today's my birthday, I wanted a treat for my lunch today.

I had the Som Tom and a pork curry with baby thai eggplants over omlette.

Again, the waitress (different one) was friendly and gladly gave me the Thai menu when I requested it, as I ate there was a table of three thai's and one other person who entered and order off the American menu (got the lunch special which is a deal, if not very challenging in terms of cuisine).

The Som Tom was spicy, full of dried shrimp, and very flavorful - quite nice, and on a bed of limes which gave a nice counterpoint flavor when I reached them.

The pork curry was extremely good - the baby eggplants, no usually one of my favorite vegetables due to the "slimy" texture - had instead a crisp and fresh flavor - prehaps it is a characteristic of the variety and the size, but they were quite tasty. The omlette and pork counteracted very pleasantly.

All in all, TAC Quick is rapidly becoming my new favorite Thai place - I have not yet had a bad dish there, and everything I've eaten there (takeout/delivery is a slightly different picture) has been extremely good, flavorful, complex and rich.

Thank you. Erik! We went to TAC for our first time Thursday night, ordered off the translated menu, and had a great, inexpensive dinner. I had the stir-fried catfish (would have been perfect if I had asked them to turn up the heat, which I will next time.) Better half had the rice noodles with duck -- notably generous with the duck meat. We tried two of their blackboard-posted appetizers: crab rolls were only so-so, but their grilled calamari was terrific. Most impressive was that all the dishes we saw being brought out to the tables looked wonderful.
