Mon Lung

Did a search and could not find anything on here about Mon Lung on Ashland.

Having lived almost directly across the street from Mon Lung for about 4 years I felt it was time to drop a post on here to possibly stir some discussion. By sheer proximity I inherently find myself visiting this place fairly frequently in the winter. With that being said I am continually looking for the "wow" dish. I will be clear, I have had nothing here that was terrible. Typically I get good cuts of chicken cooked very well. The veggies tend to be consistent in both cut and how they are cooked. Sauces tend to not be too salty or thick. Overall everything is fairly fair...

However, I have been trying to find something that has some depth and complexity to the flavor. I have been slowly working my way around Chinatown and I might just be getting spoiled and expecting too much from the neighborhood joint. But surely there is something at Mon Lung I am missing.

So I guess my question for the board is, anyone find anything at Mon Lung that really stands out for them?

I was wondeing if this was gonna be about some new French-Fusion bistro which specialized in some offal dishes.

When I first got back to Chicago, living nearby I tried it a few times and was underwhelmed. Singapore noodles were the best thing I ate and those were just decent. Prefer Eat First II on Milwuakee just s of Paulina if you want to stay in the hood or get delivery. Guilty pleasure of pork egg foo yung w/an order of above mentioned noodles (spicy) are my go to, otherwise it's Chinatown.

Most Chinatown places (including most all of Tony Hu's places like Lao Hunan & Lao Sze Chuan) deliver to this Ashland corridor, so unless you really want to eat inside a restaurant, there's almost no reason to deal with Mon Lung.

I used to work right around the corner and would hit up their lunch special once or twice a week. Definitely not great food, but very reasonably priced and serviceable for a quick lunch.
