I'm not normally a big fan of cornbread muffins. Maybe I haven't been getting them from the right sources, but I usually find them to be dry, boring and just not worth the calories. That all changed today. I found destination cornbread muffins. A friend of mine was sharing a batch of chili for lunch and I offered to grab some cornbread. A cursory Google search pointed me to a two-year old Yelp review of La Dulce on West Fullerton. I had some time to kill so I figured I'd give it a shot. I was so pleased that I did when I saw this:

Yep, that's the cornhusk taking the place of the paper muffin cup. Here's the upside down view:

The flavor and texture all lived up to the hype. Easily the best cornbread I've ever had. A real bargain at $1.25 apiece.
I also tried a churro which wasn't bad, but was nothing special. La Dulce is an unassuming neighborhood spot that's easy to miss if you're whizzing past. I'll definitely be back though for a muffin and hopefully discover another specialty or two.
