I know the consensus is that Greek Islands is No. 1, and some say Santorini is right up there, and I'm well familiar with both. (And like them both.) I'm also an habitué of Athena in the summertime, because of the patio--but not because of the food. Anyway, we're going to Greektown tonight, and I'm kind of hankering to go someplace we don't always go. So I'm interested in people's opinions as to the best place to go that isn't Greek Islands or Santorini. Thanks.

I eat at these places a lot and don't really have much of an preference order. None, to me, are spectacular and most are pretty good. You might try Parthenon. If you want to sit outside, Athena and Pegasus have nice outdoor spaces (esp Athena).

    Roditys over Parthenon.

I'll second this. I like Roditys.

Our plans ended up taking us elsewhere than Greektown tonight. But obviously I appreciate the responses and will rely on them in the future. I'd also be delighted to see the discussion continue.

I'll second that! They were my pre-Symphony dining spot for a few years, until I needed to park earlier in the loop.

I still miss the Costas that burned down - that was our clear favorite, because the décor and the food seemed to be a slight step up from the likes of Pegasus or Greek Island, at least for presentation, and a dish like the chicken with orzo, pine nut and meat stuffing side dish. Also Venus, which was the Cypriot restaurant on Jackson. To me, all the remaining established restaurants blend together, with the main differentiator being the garden patio at Athena.

Otherwise, from our POV we'd rather go to Taxim except when we went the Greektown neighborhood feel. But I don't think any of them are as good as Molyvos or Avra in NYC.
