Had an opportunity to check out Swift & Sons the other night for the pre-opening party, have to say that along with everyone else I am very excited. The space is expansive and beautiful and decidedly less pretentious and stuffy than most steakhouse environments. It's almost like Mad Men meets Brendan Sodikoff w/ the culinary talent of Chris Pandel. Judging from the menu it promises to be approachable from many angles.

The food at the party was mainly just small bites, but the pastries were outstanding. I'm excited for the combination of Pandel handling the savories and Meg Galus handling the sweets.

Just another awesome option along in burgeoning Fulton Market District!

Looking forward to it as well! Intrigued by the eclectic steak options, and nice to see they offer their seafood platters priced per person. Trying it out in early November with my fiance. Hard to imagine they'll surpass the outsanding Bavette's as the gold-standard Chicago steakhouse, but looking forward to a fun new option regardless.

They just opened up shop yesterday. Here's the opening menu for this interested: https://www.scribd.com/doc/285198470/Of ... or-Opening

I agree on the many steak options ranging from a modest $25 steak frites all the way to high end stuff. One way that this place is better than Bavettes is that it simply has more room... I'm only guesstimating, but there has to be around 400 seats in this place. That'll make the reservation much easier. I've given up on Bavettes because it is an impossible reservation to obtain.

Bavette's may be worth another shot if you haven't tried in a while - it's opened up a bit. Used to need reservations 2-3 months out, but I've had luck recently within a week or two of dining.. No guarantees, but worth a shot.

I walked in on a weeknight a few months ago with two friends and they seated us at a high-top by the bar right away. You can definitely slip in with the proper timing.

Has anyone been to cold storage, the mini restaurant inside swift and sons?

I popped into Cold Storage last weekend for a post-meal meal (the less said about dinner #1 the better). It's every bit as gorgeous a space as the rest of the building - marble everywhere. They were playing uncensored 90s rap (Wu, Tupac, etc) loud - maybe not for everyone but the crowd there was enjoying it. It is an even more dressed down environment than Swift & Sons though, so be aware. S&S has a two level bar for a more traditional bar setup if that's what you're looking for.

Wife and I had a few fantastic oysters (VA and WA) with perfectly executed traditional cocktails (Hemingway daquari and a martini). I think there were 6-8 oyster varieties available total, split from east/west. $1 oysters at HH, which I believe was 3-6. They give out complimentary waffle cut salt and vinegar chips that are dangerously addictive. For the rest of February they are giving away free double cheeseburgers after 10pm with the purchase of a cocktail. That talked us into a second night cap. It's of the Au Cheval style of cheffy double-doubles and while it might not knock off the kind, it's right there (along with 7 Lions) to the degree that it's hard to justify the wait down the road. Add in the fact that the damn thing is free right now and that alone probably makes it worth your while to peek in. Service was attentive and friendly. We'll be back.

We had a great dinner at Swift & Sons last night. My beef wellington was really good, as was the Chow Poodle's waygu filet. The sleeper hit of the evening was the excellent steak tartare. After we devoured an order as an appetizer, one of my dining companions changed his dinner order to another helping as his main.

Service was excellent, and the tab for four was way more reasonable than any of us expected.

I couldn't agree more. S&S is fast becoming one of my favorite steak houses in Chicago. The beef wellington is fantastic and they recently added a Garganeli pasta that is not to be missed. Tops among all is the customer service that is never lacking Matt Sherry and team do a fantastic job, which is evidenced at all of the Boka restaurants.

I'll chime in here. Made my second trip to S&S last night. Rib eye on the first trip was quite good, bone in tenderloin last night was a chart topper. Great steaks, great service.

I remember the earlier days of these forums, when another restaurant went by the S&S nickname around here.

Granted that the new S&ST&OB will be more casual than the Fulton Market location, I hope it is more like that location and less like Dutch & Doc's.

We went to D&D once for dinner on a game day, not realizing until we sat down that on game days they offered only a very limited menu. (Sandwiches basically.) We'd had highish expectations given the Boka ownership, and what we saw wasn't what we were looking for, so we left. A Swift & Sons in the neighborhood that is something like a Swift & Sons (and not just a Dutch & Doc's in Swift & Sons' clothing) would be awesome.
