Meeting an old friend before his work dinner at RPM. We'd like to be able to talk and find a seat. Needn't be trendy, haven't been down there in ages. Thanks.

If you don't need fancy just go to Westin. Or if you want fancy go to the Langham. Both are abou a block and a bit from RPM Italian. I anticipate you can talk in both from my experiences.

You might also consider the bar on the ground floor of Celeste. Last few times I've been there after work, it's been pretty quiet and the drinks are good.

The Berkshire Room at 15 E Ohio might fill the bill.

I have enjoyed drinks at Watershed (focuses on local midwestern beers and spirits) on State St. and Untitled (if you like bourbon this is a great bar) on Kinzie. Watershed is in the basement of Pops for Champagne so can be a little hard to find and Untitled can be a little trendy later at night but the times I have gone early has been very conversation friendly.

    This is an excellent suggestion.

Also, I suggest the bar at Naha if you're looking for a place that's nice, but a little less trendy. You'll have no trouble with noise. The service and drinks are top notch.

The lounge area in the front section of Bohemian House is really nice - and they have interesting beers as well as good cocktails. 11 E Illinois

The Kitchen on Clark just before the river is a wonderful place for drinks (or dinner) - really interesting wine list with small boutique vineyards represented and great cocktails, craft beer list and snacks.

    Both are conducive to conversation.

Yeah. It's loud even in their private space but they do a mean Temperance drink so I would expect the same for leaded.
