Hi. I am reading Kim by Rudyard Kipling and am inspired to try out some of the dishes he describes. He talks about balushai, which in the book sounds savory but on-line it is most often described as a sweet. He also mentions tarkeean and a dish described as "great boluses of spiced mutton fried in fat with cabbage and golden-brown onions."

I am looking for good versions of these dishes and any recommendations would be appreciated. I would also appreciate recommendations for Indian bakeries and any specialities to look for.

Location-wise I am on the northside and can get to Devon.

    Thanks!
