I ran into a business friend who lives in Mt. Prospect, and he was sure that Noon-o Kebab was the best in the Chicago-land area.

But, a bell went off and I thought I have seen CH reference to kebabs even better than Noon-o.

    Anyone?

for my money noon-o-kebab is the best, but VI is a strong proponent of steve's shish kabob, on the south side.

family faves at noon-o-kebab are the salmon, koubideh (kifta), and "chicken on the bones", a cornish game hen divided into eighths and grilled like a kebab.

    awesome stuff.

on my second-to-last visit, unfortunately, they had accidentally(?) used cilantro in the dill rice. the dill rice was fine on my most recent visit, though. no cilantro.

I have only been once, but I think it is highly overrated, especially the dill rice. I found it dry and it made me thirsty because of the texture as I thought it was underseasoned. Not a pleasant exprience. The lamb kabobs were ok, again overrated, IMO. They were fairly tender, but could have used more flavor as I found them a bit bland. I also was annoyed that you had to order yogurt sauce on the side.
That being said, I haven't tried other places and my only other reference point is in Washington DC - my fave restaurant - Moby Dick House of Kebab, which is truly amazing... if u are ever in DC you must go there.

Erm, noon-o-kebab never has lamb kebabs on the menu.

Are you confusing the meats or maybe noon-o-kebab with reza's?

Sorry, I mistyped. yes you are correct. The beef kabobs is what I had at Noon O. I was (probably unfairly) comparing them to Moby Dick's lamb kabobs. Sorry for the confusion.
